From the Author:

Art and Xenia Minton

My interest in birds was kindled by an elective wildlife course at Mississippi State University in 1975 where Dr. Carroll Perkins presented “bird of the week.” We spent about fifteen minutes on a different bird each week, and that made a significant contribution to my enjoyment and appreciation of possibly the most accessible type of wildlife. Teaching our youngster to identify birds at our backyard feeder was a delightful way to share the joy of birds. When I couldn’t find anything to assist me in teaching bird identification that was suitable for a young child, the idea for this book was born.
This book was designed to kindle interest in common birds. Our goal is to provide this resource to assist you in teaching little ones about the natural world right in your own back yard.
